Dr. Abiye Kalaiwo is a distinguished global health leader with over a decade of experience delivering large-scale public health programs, advancing policy reforms, and promoting data-driven solutions across Africa. At USAID, where he has served for over 15 years, Abiye has led the design and implementation of HIV prevention and treatment programs, as well as responses to COVID-19 and tuberculosis—managing more than $200 million in U.S. Government funding. He led the rollout of long-acting injectable Cabotegravir (CAB-LA) in Nigeria—the country’s first injectable antiretroviral and the largest deployment of CAB-LA in Africa—accelerating access to long-acting PrEP for high-burden populations. Abiye’s regional contributions span Uganda, Mali, Niger, Gambia, and Burundi, where he has supported program design, capacity building, technical assistance, and field assessments across global health priorities. He is also known for developing real-time, data-driven tools that improve program decision-making and operational efficiency.
He holds an MBBS from the University of Port Harcourt, an MPH from the University of Lagos, and is completing a PhD in Global Health at the University of Geneva. A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Abiye has received multiple awards for leadership and innovation. Outside work, he enjoys photography, hiking, and video games—reflecting his holistic approach to leadership and wellness.
